Malaita is one of the largest provinces of the Solomon Islands. The people of Malaita were the main rivals to the people of Guadalcanal province where the capital Honiara is located during the civil war (more often referred to as the ethnic tension). Today while there is undoubtedly some tension still going on between the two groups nobody really wants to go back to the days of war and the country is mostly at peace.
